Rug repair is the rebuilding of a handwoven rug’s damaged structure: re-tying loose fringes, re-knotting a worn or bald patch back to the level of the surrounding pile, and replacing burned or missing yarn with wool dyed to the same tone. A rug is walked on, and it wears. A stiletto heel or a chair caster pulls knots and warps loose; fringe knots work themselves undone; the ends of a fringe fray or fuse. None of that is the end of a rug. This page covers what can be put right and how to get a quote.
What can be repaired?

What matches well depends on the rug. Wool that has aged in daylight for twenty years is not the color it left the loom, so a repair is matched to the rug as it is now rather than to the shade in a dye book.

How does the rug reach you?
Either ship it or bring it in. Rugs can be sent by courier to the Ankara address, or handed over at the Çayyolu showroom during opening hours. The same routes work in reverse when the work is finished.

Can a bald patch in a handwoven rug be rewoven?
Yes. The area is re-knotted row by row onto the existing warps and then clipped to the height of the pile around it. On a rug whose colors have aged, the replacement yarn is matched to the rug as it looks now.
Can a burn mark be repaired?
Yes. The scorched pile is cut away and the gap rewoven with yarn dyed to the surrounding tone. How visible the repair remains depends on how large the burn is and how even the color is around it.

Do I have to bring the rug to Ankara?
No. Rugs can be sent by courier to the Ankara address and returned the same way. Handing the rug over at the Çayyolu showroom is an option if you are in the city.
Do you repair rugs you did not sell?
Yes. Repairs are taken on for handwoven and loom-woven rugs regardless of where they were bought. Send photographs first so the work can be assessed.
