01Knot by knot, by hand

One piece. Carving a pile by hand is slow work and it changes how a rug behaves in a room: raised areas take the light and cut channels hold shadow, so the pattern stays visible from an angle at which a flat rug would show nothing.

02Color that shifts through the day

The drawing itself comes out of the Anatolian repertoire, redrawn in colors that belong to the present — mink, brown, and a green pale enough to read as gray from across a room. Wherever the bamboo viscose falls, the surface brightens. Wool and cotton carry the body of the rug; bamboo viscose is reserved for the motifs, where it does the work silk would do at a different order of cost.

03Coming off the loom

The knot count is high, which is what makes the relief possible — a coarse pile cannot be carved without losing the line. Halıcızade is explicit that only a master washer should clean it, a restriction worth reading as a compliment to the rug and a warning to whoever owns it. Handwoven in India at high knot density.
