02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

On the surface: Wool. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.

02

Tribal pattern

Tribal pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward.

03

Türkiye weaving tradition

This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.

Red Anatolian Hand-Knotted Wool Niğde Village Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Niğde lies at the southern edge of the central Anatolian plateau, under the Melendiz range, and its village looms have been turning out red-ground rugs for as long as the province has had a name. This rug came off one of those looms — hand-knotted in wool, 121 × 222 cm (4'0" × 7'3"), Anatolian drawing on red, made in Türkiye. A single rug. A domestic loom leaves its signature in the geometry.

01A line from the archive

The motifs are counted rather than drawn, so every diagonal arrives as a staircase and every medallion has flat sides; the weaver worked from memory, which means the figures grow and shrink slightly as the rug climbs and the two ends are visibly not twins.

02After the color

The red carries them, with darker tones for the outlines and small cream reliefs where a figure needs an edge to stop against. Wool for the pile, wool for the warp and weft — a village rug through and through, with no cotton anywhere in it.

03What Cotton does

That combination gives a heavier, softer fall than a cotton-founded rug: it sits down onto a floor and does not want to curl, but it will also move a little with humidity, and the width can differ by a centimeter or two from end to end.

04At the loom in in Türkiye

Nobody weaving at home held a warp to the millimeter. Anyone who needs a rug exact to the centimeter should be buying a machine-made one. Washing is a professional's job. Hand-knotted in the villages around Niğde, southern central Türkiye. Wool throughout — pile, warp and weft alike, and no cotton anywhere. Red ground with counted geometric drawing and cream outlining. Worked from memory, so the figures shift in size from one end to the other. 121 × 222 cm (4'0" × 7'3") — a hall, a bedroom, a narrow sitting room. A wool foundation falls heavily and moves slightly with humidity. The width may vary by a centimeter or two along its length. Washing through a specialist only. It was woven to be lived on rather than looked at, and it improves under the treatment.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
