02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool yarn

On the surface: Wool, Cotton. Writing the yarn onto the spec sheet is saying in advance how the rug will age.

02

Tribal motif

Tribal pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a orange ground.

03

Türkiye loom

This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.

Technical details

Orange Anatolian Hand-Knotted Wool Herki Runner — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

01 / 06

Full description

Three and a half meters of it: a hand-knotted Herki village runner, 80 × 346 cm (2'7" × 11'4"), orange through the ground, a wool pile over cotton, woven in Türkiye and put away in a chest instead of laid down.

A runner is woven to a corridor rather than to a room, and the drawing has to work at that proportion — small repeating figures stacked up the length instead of one composition to be taken in at once. This one runs a column of Anatolian motifs up the middle with narrow borders holding it on either side. Orange is the thing to notice, and over 346 centimeters it does not hold one exact tone, because village yarn is dyed in batches and no two batches match. The faint banding that results is the most reliable evidence anywhere that a rug was made by hand.

Cotton underneath, wool above, knotted by hand in a village. Sandık eskisi describes where it spent its life: folded in a dowry chest, taken out for visitors, folded again, which is why an old wool runner still has pile standing on it. It comes with the creases that come from being kept that way, and they take a while under their own weight to go. At eighty centimeters it is narrow, so the corridor is worth measuring before anyone assumes it will cover the floor. Specialist cleaning.

  • A Turkish village piece, knotted by hand, wool above and cotton beneath.
  • 80 × 346 cm (2'7" × 11'4") — a corridor length, and narrow with it.
  • Orange ground with a column of Anatolian figures and narrow flanking borders.
  • Faint tonal banding along the length, from yarn dyed in separate batches.
  • Chest-kept instead of used, which is why the pile survived.
  • Fold creases arrive with it and settle out slowly.
  • Specialist cleaning.
  • One piece, and a runner this long is not an easy thing to find.

Corridors give a rug the most walking and the least attention, so a piece folded away for decades is arguably the wrong candidate — which is also the argument for putting it where it will be seen.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
