Sixty centimeters wide and one of one: wool patchwork runner

The surface uses Wool. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Tribal pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads colorful.
This rug is made in Türkiye. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Turning the rug a hundred and eighty degrees once a year spreads the load of sunlight and foot traffic evenly across the surface.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Sixty centimeters wide and one of one: wool patchwork runner
Patchwork, in a rug, means panels of separate weavings cut square and joined into one field, so a single piece carries several patterns at once. These two are handwoven wool from the Anadolu Şal series, made in Türkiye, and both are narrow: 60 × 178 cm (2'0" × 5'10") and 65 × 172 cm (2'2" × 5'8"), one of each. Şal is the Turkish word for shawl, and this series is named for the drawing rather than for any garment — the shawl families of Anatolia are dense, small-scale and multicolored, and that is what a patchwork wants, because a large motif cut into panels loses its sense.
Here the color is the composition. No two panels agree, and the seams between them are the only straight lines on the rug. At sixty centimeters wide neither of these will ever sit under furniture, which is the correct use of a runner: it is a rug to walk down, and a corridor is where the changes of color read one after another as you go. Handwoven in wool, in Türkiye.
Wool is the right fiber for a joined piece because it takes a needle without splitting and because the panels can be pulled together tightly enough that the seam sits flat. The honest limitation is the seam itself.
A patchwork has joins, and joins are where a rug wears first and where a vacuum head can catch, so take it gently along the lines. Each of these is a single piece with its own arrangement of panels, and no second one exists in the same order.
Professional washing, and never a machine. Handwoven in Türkiye, wool throughout. Panels of separate weavings joined into one field — no two panels alike. 60 × 178 cm (2'0" × 5'10") and 65 × 172 cm (2'2" × 5'8"), one of each. Runner proportions, for a corridor, a landing, or beside a bed. Anadolu Şal takes its name from the small-scale shawl drawing of Anatolia. The seams are the wear points; vacuum along them, not across. Professional washing only. Each piece is one of one. Walking a corridor with one of these down it means passing through four or five different weavings in twelve steps.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
