02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.

02

Türkiye work

This rug is woven in Türkiye. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

03

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Multicolor Burdur Handwoven Wool Cicim Kilim — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

The name Burdur on a cicim is not loose description — the district holds a registered geographical indication for its kilims, so the word is legally tied to the place. This handwoven wool cicim kilim measures 196 × 354 cm (6'5" × 11'7"), is multicolored, is forty to fifty years old, and spent nearly all of that time folded in a chest. What comes out of a chest after half a century looks wrong at first, because it looks new.

01After the color

The reds have not gone to rose, the greens have not gone gray, and the cicim motifs still stand off the ground the way they did on the loom. Burdur drawing is dense and small in scale; the raised threads carry it in rows and the ground barely shows between them.

02From the hand of the weaver

The age is in the record and in the wool, not on the surface. Handwoven in the Burdur district, in wool, by weavers working the cicim technique — a plain ground with the motif laid over it in an added yarn. The geographical indication is an intellectual-property registration rather than a quality grade: it governs where a piece may be woven to carry the name, and says nothing about any individual kilim. What is unusual here is not the age, which is common enough in chest-kept weaving, but the size.

03The rule of care

Send it to a professional washer and leave it at that. Why does a fifty-year-old kilim look new? Because it was never used. In Anatolian households a woven piece often went into the dowry chest and stayed there, out of sunlight and off the floor, so neither light nor feet ever reached it.

04Knot by knot, by hand

The wool ages, the dyes do not fade, and the piece arrives with its original colors intact. Handwoven in the Burdur district of southwestern Türkiye, in wool. Cicim: motif threads added above a plain flat ground, so the drawing stands proud. Burdur kilims hold a registered geographical indication tying the name to the district. Forty to fifty years old: vintage in trade usage, which has no issuing body behind it. Multicolored and unfaded, having been stored instead of walked on. 196 × 354 cm (6'5" × 11'7"): long and wide enough for a whole seating group. Washing by a specialist in old flatweaves. One piece. The next fifty years are the ones it was actually woven for, and they start whenever it comes out of the wrapping.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
