01The origin of the pattern

Mink is the warm gray-brown that sits between taupe and pale coffee, and it is the reason the pattern reads quietly. There is one of it. Damask puts stems and blossoms into a repeat that never quite closes, and on a ground this restrained the effect is closer to watermarked paper than to a floral.

02The mark of slow weaving

The knotting is tight, so the curves hold their line. Light does the rest: from the doorway the surface is pale and faintly lustrous, from the far side of the room it darkens by a shade and the figure comes forward.

03How it feels underfoot
