The surface uses Wool, Silk. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Traditional pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is beige, brown.
This rug is woven in Türkiye and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Red flowers dropped into beige, a medallion repeating outward
Beige Frame-Pattern Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, 206 × 259 cm (6'9" × 8'6"): a central medallion repeating its figures outward across a beige field, ringed by a floral border, with small red flowers scattered through the whole arrangement.
Tied by hand in Anatolia, wool for the ground with silk running through part of the drawing. One piece. The red is the interesting decision. Everything else stays inside a beige-to-brown range that would settle into one continuous surface if left alone, and the scattered red flowers stop that from happening: a handful of small bright points across five square meters, enough to keep the eye moving without turning the rug into a pattern.
The medallion at the center repeats its motifs instead of sitting alone, so the field has rhythm rather than a single focus, and the floral border closes it without competing. Weavers in Anatolia made it, and the silk sits exactly where the drawing has to be sharpest. Close knotting is what lets a motif this small stay a motif; at a lower count the red flowers would be dots. Every rug from this kind of work differs from every other, which is what handwork means here, and the small shifts from row to row are where you see it.
Send it out for washing, since beige recovers well from a professional clean and badly from a domestic one. Knotted in Anatolia by hand; the ground is wool, the finer figures silk. 206 × 259 cm (6'9" × 8'6") — a living room or a large bedroom. Beige field with a repeating central medallion and a floral border. Small red flowers scattered through the beige and brown range. Close knotting keeps the smallest motifs legible. Sits naturally with wood-toned furniture, classical or modern. Professional cleaning, which beige takes well. A single piece. Take the red flowers out of it and this would be a quiet rug; leave them in and it is a rug somebody drew.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
