02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool yarn

On the surface: Wool, Silk, Cotton. Writing the yarn onto the spec sheet is saying in advance how the rug will age.

02

Traditional pattern layout

Traditional pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is red.

03

India work

This rug is woven in India. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Technical details

Red Floral Hand-Knotted Silk-Blend Wool Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

01 / 05

04 / 05

Bakımı ve sınırları

Temizliği profesyonel yıkama; evde yıkanmaz. Üstten boyalı halılarda ilk yıkama profesyonel yapılmalıdır. Doygun kırmızı güneşte zamanla açılır; halının yarısı güneş alıyorsa yılda bir baş-son çevirin. Saçaklar elle taranarak açılır. Süpürge başlığı fırçasız olmalı.

Full description

At 255 × 350 cm (8'4" × 11'6") this is a room-sized floor and very little would fit under it: a hand-knotted floral in red, with wool and silk in the pile and cotton beneath, made in India. Close to nine square meters of knotting, and only the one of it.

Red carries a floral drawing better than any other ground, because the flowers can be paler than the field and still read from across a room. Classic is the word the house files it under, meaning the flowers are drawn in the older manner — curved stems, closed blossoms, a repeating field rather than one figure in the middle. Silk does a single job in a rug like this and does it plainly: it returns light along the fiber, so whatever is knotted in silk lifts out of the wool as you cross the room and sinks back when you stop.

Silk and wool make the pile; beneath them the warp and weft are cotton, and every knot was tied in India. Cotton is the foundation of choice for a floral at this scale because it does not stretch, and three and a half meters of length will pull itself out of square if the foundation gives at all. A piece this size is heavy: two people to move it, and a specialist to wash it. It exists once, in one size, at one red.

  • Hand-knotted in India, wool and silk pile over a cotton foundation.
  • Classic floral drawing on a red ground, repeating rather than centered.
  • 255 × 350 cm (8'4" × 11'6"), a little under nine square meters.
  • Silk picks up light where wool holds it, so the pattern shifts as you move.
  • Cotton warp and weft keep a rug of this length true.
  • Professional washing, and two people to lift it.
  • A single piece.

Under a dining table it will outlast the chairs; in a large sitting room it sets the color for everything that goes in afterwards.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
