The surface uses Wool, Silk. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Traditional pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is cream.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Most of what was worked into this rug is in the border, and from the middle of a room you will not see it — worth knowing first. Hand-knotted on Anatolian looms at 179 × 247 cm (5'10" × 8'1"), a cream field with faint floral drawing, a border of clear flower and leaf motifs, in wool with silk through parts of the pattern. The field flowers undulate rather than repeat on a grid, and they sit within a tone of the ground, so they behave as a texture.
The border does the opposite: brown, gold and beige, drawn firmly, in the standard Anatolian arrangement of flower and leaf. The transitions between the two are what the weaver spent time on, and they are the reason the rug does not read as two rugs joined at an edge. Wool through the whole pile, with silk in certain passages of the drawing where the light needs catching.
It was woven on traditional Anatolian hand looms at a close knot count, in the Oushak manner. Cream deepens slowly with age; against oak and walnut it settles in as though it had been in the room longer than it has.
Professional cleaning keeps the surface as it came. Hand-knotted on traditional Anatolian hand looms in Türkiye. A wool pile, with silk running through certain passages of the drawing. A faint floral field held within a tone of the cream ground. A firmly drawn border of flower and leaf motifs in brown, gold and beige. 179 × 247 cm (5'10" × 8'1"). Close knotting; Oushak-derived drawing. Most of the detail is at the edges, not in the middle. Professional cleaning.
One piece. Put a low table in the middle of it and nothing is lost; put a sofa across the border and something is.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
