01Color, by the light

One of one. The color belongs to the late part of a summer afternoon rather than the middle of one — saturated but low, so the flowers sit inside the ground instead of on top of it. Where light falls flat the outlines soften and nearly vanish; where it rakes across, they come back. The forms are taken from Oushak drawing and kept classical, with green working through the stems and beige and brown holding the borders.

02Knot by knot, by hand

This is not a rug that announces itself from the hall. Knotted by hand in Anatolia; the ground is wool and silk runs through the flowers, at a density tight enough to keep the outlines crisp for as long as the rug lasts.

03The geography of the weave

Fewer people in Türkiye do work at this scale with every season that passes, which describes the trade and is not a reason to hurry. Beside oak, chestnut or walnut the yellow warms. Against a cool gray floor it looks slightly out of place, which is worth knowing in advance.
