Traditional pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads white.
Woven in 4 sizes, from 170 × 240 cm to 270 × 370 cm. The room suggestions in the size guide show which one will sit.
This rug is made in India. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Bamboo viscose is what gives this rug its light. A handwoven white damask rug from India, worked in wool and bamboo viscose above a cotton foundation, in the largest size still available at 270 × 370 cm (8'10" × 12'2") — nearly ten square meters of tone-on-tone pattern. Damask is a pattern of European silk-weaving origin, mirrored scrolling foliage in a strict half-drop repeat, and a rug that carries it in one color is relying entirely on surface.
White on white, the drawing exists as a difference in how light leaves the two areas rather than as a difference in color, so it appears from one side of the room and vanishes from the other.
Bamboo viscose is the reason it does that: the fiber reflects where wool absorbs. Handwoven in India. The surface carries wool and bamboo viscose; the foundation underneath is cotton. Bamboo viscose is the house name for what is often sold as bamboo silk; it is a cellulose fiber rather than silk, and calling it what it is matters when the two are priced differently.
A white rug at this size is a commitment. It shows what a dark one hides, and the viscose content means water is not a repair method — blot a spill, and leave cleaning to a professional. What you get in return is nearly ten square meters that lift a dark room without adding a color to it. Is bamboo viscose the same thing as silk? No.
Bamboo viscose is a manufactured cellulose fiber spun from bamboo pulp, and it is sometimes sold as bamboo silk because it takes light in a similar way. Silk comes from a silkworm. The sheen is comparable; the fiber, the price and the care are not. Handwoven in India — wool and bamboo viscose worked on cotton. Damask drawing — mirrored scrolling foliage in a half-drop repeat, worked tone on tone. The pattern reads by reflection rather than by color, and changes as you move. 270 × 370 cm (8'10" × 12'2"), just under ten square meters: a large living room with every leg on. Bamboo viscose is a cellulose fiber, not silk, whatever the trade name suggests. White shows everything; blot spills dry and do not wet them. Professional cleaning only, since viscose weakens when wet. This is the last of the sizes still held; the smaller ones have gone. A white rug is the most demanding thing you can put on a floor, and the only one that makes a big dark room look twice its size.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
