The story of this rug

Cotton and bamboo viscose make up the ground of this handwoven cream rug, and bamboo viscose is used again in the damask motifs so that the drawing carries a sheen the ground does not. Wool is in the mix as well.

01Knot by knot, by hand

It is woven by hand in India, in cream and gray. That is the whole idea of the piece, and it is an old weaver's device rather than a modern one: one fiber for the field, a shinier one for the figure, and the pattern appears or disappears depending on where you stand.

02A line from the archive

Damask scrollwork suits the treatment, because the repeat is large and continuous and needs light to travel across it. In cream and gray, with no strong color anywhere, what registers is texture. Halıcızade prints something on this page that most sellers leave off: photographs cannot be trusted on color.

03After the color

The tone of a rug on a screen depends on how much light was in the room where the picture was taken, the angle it arrived from, and which way the pile happened to be lying — so a cream can turn out warmer or cooler than the photograph suggested.

04What Wool does

Spills wipe off the surface; anything beyond that goes to a professional cleaner. Handwoven in India — the blend is cotton, bamboo viscose and wool. Cotton and bamboo viscose in the ground; bamboo viscose again in the motifs, for sheen. Damask drawing in cream and gray. The figure lifts or flattens depending on the direction of the light. Spills wipe up; anything more needs a professional wash. Screen color and room color will not match exactly, and the house says so. Look at it twice from opposite ends of a room and you will have seen two rugs.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
