On the surface: Wool, Silk. The kind of yarn sets the hand of the rug, its shine and what its care asks, all together.
Traditional pattern. The motif is built row by row as the weaving advances; it is only seen whole once it comes off the loom. The ground color is beige, cream.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

It has the manner of a grandmother's front room — the good rug, kept for guests. Hand-knotted on Anatolian looms in wool with silk worked through it, 212 × 333 cm (6'11" × 10'11"), a cream field of light floral drawing closed by a frame in burgundy and gold.
One piece at this size. The flowers on the field are drawn faintly, so most of the color lives in the border, where burgundy and gold run together around the whole rectangle. That is an old arrangement and it works for a plain reason: a strong frame lets a pale field stay pale without looking empty.
In shadow the burgundy goes almost brown; under a window it comes back to wine. Nothing about it is loud, and it does not want to be the reason someone walks into the room. Anatolian hand looms, a wool pile carrying silk in sections of the drawing, and a knot density high enough to hold a fine line.
Weavers who work this way and wool of this grade are both getting scarcer, and that is why a rug of this description is harder to come by than it used to be. At 333 cm it runs nearly eleven feet, so it needs a room that can take it; in a small space it will climb the walls. Professional cleaning, and it keeps its shape. Hand-knotted on Anatolian looms in Türkiye. Wool pile, with silk laid into sections of the drawing. Cream field with light floral drawing; burgundy and gold in the frame. Dense knotting — the reason the fine lines stay fine. 212 × 333 cm (6'11" × 10'11") — a large living room or a long entrance hall. Suits oak and walnut, and English-style furniture in particular. Professional cleaning only. One piece. It will look better in ten years than it does now, which is the usual way with a pale wool field that has been walked on gently.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
