The story of this rug

Wool everywhere except the flowers, and viscose in those: Cream Floral Hand-Knotted Wool Runner, 80 × 305 cm (2'7" × 10'0"), tied by hand on a cotton foundation in India, its cream ground carrying beige, mink, gold and pastel green in a modernized Oushak floral. One piece. The palette is deliberately pastel, and it works because the transitions are gradual: beige moves into mink, mink into gold, with no hard edge anywhere in the field.

01Up close to the pattern

The flowers themselves are drawn in the English manner, open and full-headed rather than stylized, which is unusual for an Oushak lineage and is what makes the runner read as contemporary rather than antique.

02At the loom in in India

Viscose in the flower heads throws a low shine, so the pattern lifts when a lamp is on and settles back in flat daylight. Indian weavers knotted this by hand across several months at a very high knot density; the drawing has the detail it does because there are enough knots to draw with.

03What the yarn is

Wool makes the whole surface, viscose the pattern, and cotton the warp and weft that hold the length straight — a three-meter runner on a weak foundation goes wavy, and this one does not. Cream on a corridor floor is the least forgiving thing anyone can ask of a rug, and that is better said before the first winter than after it.

04Color that shifts through the day

Professional washing. Hand-knotted in India over several months. Wool surface, viscose in the flowers, cotton foundation. 80 × 305 cm (2'7" × 10'0") — a long, narrow hallway piece. Cream ground with beige, mink, gold-yellow and pastel green. Oushak floral drawing, redrawn in an English full-headed style. Very high knot density; the pattern holds its detail at close range. The viscose lifts under lamplight and lies flat in daylight. Professional washing; a pale ground in a corridor asks for it sooner. It sits with cream and brown furniture as though it were made for them, and with little else, which is what a palette this exact costs.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
