The story of this rug

Purple next to orange is a combination most weaving traditions avoid, and this handwoven wool kilim puts them a hand's width apart. It measures 100 × 142 cm (3'3" × 4'8") and is flatwoven in Afghanistan from wool on cotton warps, with green and blue running between the two hot colors to hold them apart. The drawing is Anatolian and Turkmen in origin, geometric from edge to edge, built from stepped diamonds and small comb figures set in rows.

Nothing on the surface is curved. At this scale the rows read almost as a chart, and the eye moves along them rather than settling in a center, which is what separates a kilim from a medallion rug. Wool carries every color; cotton carries the load.

01Knot by knot, by hand

A flatweave has no pile to crush, so it wears differently from a knotted rug — it thins rather than flattens, and it does so first wherever a chair leg lands. For its size it weighs next to nothing, and it shakes clean over a balcony rail.

02Color that shifts through the day

Wash it professionally rather than at home. Handwoven flatweave from Afghanistan, wool on a cotton warp. 100 × 142 cm (3'3" × 4'8"), and thin enough to slide under a door. Orange, blue, green and purple, in stepped diamonds and comb figures. Anatolian and Turkmen drawing, geometric throughout. Wears thin at pressure points rather than flattening; move the furniture occasionally. Professional washing. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
