02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

On the surface: Wool, Bamboo, Cotton. The kind of yarn sets the hand of the rug, its shine and what its care asks, all together.

02

Modern pattern layout

Modern pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is green.

03

India work

This rug is woven in India. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Green Abstract Hand-Knotted Wool Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

01 / 05

Full description

A Turkish rug house selling a rug knotted in India is worth explaining rather than hiding. This one is hand-knotted, 140 × 200 cm (4'7" × 6'7"), the pile wool and bamboo viscose, the foundation cotton, green, with an abstract drawing that owes nothing to Anatolia. It is a single piece.

The pattern has no center, no border and no repeat that could be named. Shapes float on the ground at different scales and the eye finds nowhere to settle, which is the point of an abstract rug and the reason it works under modern furniture where a medallion would fight it. Green does the rest. Bamboo viscose in the pile takes light the way silk does, so wherever the drawing uses it the surface goes bright and the wool passages beside it stay matte — the pattern is therefore made partly of fiber, not of color alone.

Hand-knotted in India, which is where a rug of this construction is made, and there is no point pretending it is Anatolian work. Wool absorbs the wear, bamboo viscose supplies the light, and cotton holds the tension underneath. The viscose is also the drawback: it crushes underfoot and keeps the direction of the last footstep until somebody brushes the pile straight, and water is not its friend.

  • Knotted by hand in India.
  • The pile is wool with bamboo viscose; the foundation is cotton.
  • 140 × 200 cm (4'7" × 6'7"), a bedroom, study or small sitting room.
  • Abstract field with no center, no border and no nameable repeat.
  • Bamboo viscose gives back light that wool swallows, so the drawing shifts as you move.
  • Viscose crushes, and a footmark stays until the pile is combed straight.
  • Keep water off it; washing by a professional only.
  • One piece.

This one looks best in the room with the least going on in it, which is not where most people put a green rug.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?
