Technical details

Handwoven Kilim, Studio Potato Flow — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

It was woven by women working at home across Türkiye, on their own looms, to a design drawn for this series alone: Flow is a handwoven kilim, root-dyed, and no two pieces come off the loom alike. The one that arrives will differ from the one photographed. That last sentence is a warning in most catalogs and a description here. A kilim woven to a single design by many hands in many places absorbs the hand of each weaver — tension changes, dye lots change, a motif lands a centimeter to one side — and the piece you receive carries whichever of those it happened to get.

01Coming off the loom

Root dyeing widens the variation further, because a plant dye is a harvest rather than a formula and no two baths match exactly. Flat-woven, so there is no pile at all: the whole thickness of the piece is the weave itself, which makes it light, easy to lift, and thin enough to lie under a door a knotted rug would not clear. The other side of that is the absence of cushioning. A kilim is a covering rather than a padding, and on a hard floor it remains a hard floor.

02From the hand of the weaver

Professional washing. Handwoven on the loom in Türkiye, to a design made for this series. Woven by artisan women working in their own homes across the country. Root-dyed, which is why the color varies from one piece to the next. Every piece differs from the photograph, and from every other piece. Flat-woven with no pile — thin enough to clear a door. No cushioning underfoot; it covers a floor rather than softening one. Professional washing. Buying one means accepting that you cannot see it before it arrives, which is the oldest condition in the rug trade.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
