Pink Geometric Hand-Knotted Wool Rug

01Coming off the loom

Tied by hand in India in wool. There is one of it. The rectangles are not aligned to a grid. They vary in width and in tone, and the pink beneath them moves between a candy pink and a coral, so the surface has rhythm without having a pattern in the usual sense. Daylight makes it bright and slightly hard; evening lamplight pulls it warm and deep, and the coral comes forward.

02What Wool does

At this size the whole rug is taken in at once, which is why the composition had to work as a single image rather than as a repeat. Wool throughout the pile, at ordinary rug thickness rather than anything shallow, so it holds its shape and takes a bare foot well.

03Knot by knot, by hand

It was knotted by hand and belongs to a small run made for Halıcızade rather than to a general range. The one place the house does not recommend it is a kitchen — the pile is deep enough to hold crumbs. Beyond the usual vacuuming, leave it to a professional washer. Hand-knotted in wool, in a limited run made for Halıcızade. Rectangles of varying size on a pink ground, without border or medallion. The pink runs between candy and coral, and the balance changes with the light. 90 × 160 cm (2'11" × 5'3") — beside a bed, in front of a chair, in a small entry. Standard pile height; wool supplies both the softness and the durability. Not recommended for a kitchen; the pile will hold crumbs. Professional washing.

One piece only. Pink at this saturation is a decision, and a rug this size is the smallest place in a room to make one.
