The story of this rug

A prayer rug is built to one person's dimensions and to one direction: the mihrab arch at the head end is laid toward the qibla, and the rest is simply enough room to stand, bow and sit. This one is loom-woven in Türkiye in khaki green, in Tencel® over a cotton foundation. Tencel® is lyocell, a cellulose fiber spun from wood pulp under a Lenzing licence, and it is here for the way it takes light — a smooth filament reflects along its length, so a flat green picks up a soft, almost damp sheen wherever the pile turns.

01From the hand of the weaver

Khaki is an unusually restrained choice for a seccade, which more often runs to red or deep blue, and it lets the arch read as architecture instead of as ornament. Loom-woven means the ground is laid down mechanically and the ends are finished by hand: the middle construction, and the sensible one for a piece that gets rolled, carried and put down five times a day. The pile is low, which matters here more than anywhere else, because a deep pile makes a prostration unsteady and a flat one does not.

02The Wool on the surface

No wool goes into it anywhere. Professional washing. The loom is in Türkiye; the Tencel® pile sits over a cotton foundation. Khaki green, with the mihrab arch marking the head end. Tencel® is lyocell, made from wood pulp — the reason the green moves under light. Low pile, which keeps the rug steady underfoot and under the knee. Contains no wool. Rolls and carries easily, and is sized for one person. Professional washing. What is the arch at one end of a prayer rug for? It is the mihrab, taken from the arched recess in a mosque wall that shows where Mecca lies.

On a rug it marks which end is the head end, so the piece can be laid down facing the qibla. It is a direction marker before it is an ornament. A prayer rug is usually chosen for its color; this one is quiet enough to be chosen for its size.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
