Silk-blend surface

Because silk fiber is fine, a silk-blend rug comes in lighter than a wool rug of the same size. It is easy to lift and to move with the seasons.

The story of this rug

About seventy percent of this pile is silk and the rest is wool, a proportion almost nobody weaves any more. Cream Floral Hand-Knotted Silk and Wool Rug, Hanzâde Series — fine flowers in light beige and ivory over a cream ground, made in Türkiye, 168 × 244 cm (5'6" × 8'0"). One piece. At a distance the rug looks plain.

01Color that shifts through the day

Walk up to it and the flowers appear, drawn in tones only a shade or two off the ground, and they come and go as the light moves. That is silk doing what silk does, throwing light back along the fiber, so the same motif is visible from one side of the room and gone from the other.

02Coming off the loom

The hand is cool and fluid, closer to dress fabric than to a floor covering, and it folds instead of creasing. Months of knotting go into it, and the ends are finished afterwards with fringes knotted one by one.

03What Wool does

Wool is the warmth underfoot; silk is the shine and the drape. A silk-heavy pile is not a rug for a corridor, for a chair that gets dragged, or for a domestic cleaning machine — the fiber crushes and shows it.

04At the loom in in Türkiye

Weaving at this silk content has become uncommon, and specialist washing is the only kind this piece should see. Hand-knotted in Türkiye; roughly 70% silk with wool for the remainder. Fine flowers in light beige and ivory on a cream ground. The pattern appears and recedes with the direction of the light. Fringes tied one at a time once the knotting is complete. 168 × 244 cm (5'6" × 8'0") — a bedroom, or a formal sitting room. A silk pile crushes under weight; keep heavy legs off it. Washing by a silk specialist. A single rug, at a silk proportion that is rarely woven now. Rugs like this were once ordinary in İstanbul workshops and are now counted.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
