01Color that shifts through the day

One piece. Brown grounds get chosen for corridors more often than any other color, for the sensible reason that they hide the traffic, and this one is warm rather than dull: Erzurum fleece takes dye with some shine left in it, so the brown keeps moving while you cover the length of it.

02Reading the motif

The figures come from the early Oushak repertoire and are drawn at a scale that stays readable at runner width, which is the hardest thing to get right in a narrow piece. Çınar Halı has taken international awards for its designs, and the Harem series is where its classical work sits.

03What Wool does

First-grade wool and silk yarns go in, and the double knot puts twice the material into each row, which is where the working life of the rug comes from. Rugs of this weaving class turn up less often every year, and this one exists a single time.
