Tribal pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is navy, burgundy.
This rug is woven in Türkiye and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

It has been on somebody's floor already, and the honest place to begin is there. Navy Yağcıbedir Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, pre-owned, 117 × 217 cm (3'10" × 7'1"), wool throughout, knotted in Türkiye — a dark navy ground with red carried through the drawing.
One of one, and it comes with its history on it. Yağcıbedir weaving comes out of Sındırgı, in Balıkesir province, on the western side of Anatolia, and its signature is exactly this pairing: a ground dark enough to read as black from a doorway, with red doing all the work inside it. That contrast is what makes the type recognizable across a room.
On a used piece the navy has usually gone one shade softer and the red one shade browner, and the two sit closer together than they did the day the rug left the loom. All wool, tied by hand, with the same fiber in the foundation as in the pile. The proportions are narrow and long, which makes this an entrance rug or a strip beside a bed rather than anything a seating group could use. Wear on a used rug is never even — the middle sits lower than the ends, and sun will have reached one part of it more than another.
That is what pre-owned means, and it is why the piece is what it is. A rug washer handles it; a machine does not. Hand-knotted in Türkiye to the Yağcıbedir drawing of Sındırgı, in wool. Sold pre-owned; the pile carries wear from its first life. A navy ground with red through the drawing — the pairing the type is known for. 117 × 217 cm (3'10" × 7'1") — narrow and long, for an entrance or a bedside. Wool warp, wool weft, wool pile. Wear is uneven: lower through the middle, and lighter where the sun reached. Cleaned by a rug washer. A single used piece. A rug that has already given up a little of its color is a rug nobody has to be careful with, and that is not the smallest thing to own.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
