On the surface: Wool, Cotton. The same pattern woven in another yarn becomes another rug; the difference shows at the first touch.
Modern, Traditional pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is blue.
This rug is woven in Pakistan. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

It looks like a rug that has spent forty years in the sun, and it has not. Blue Vintage Oushak Handwoven Wool Rug, Retro Series takes classical Oushak motifs into contemporary blues, then washes and dyes the finished rug so the color sits deep and slightly worn.
Woven in Pakistan and Afghanistan. There is one of it. The Oushak drawing is intact — the large open medallions and angular vine of western Anatolia — but these are not historical blues. They run from a washed pale to something near ink, and the surface carries a shine that comes out of the post-weaving wash rather than out of the fiber.
Under an office ceiling light it flattens into a single blue; in a living room with lamps set low it separates into three or four. That range is the whole reason for the process. The pile is wool from edge to edge.
Beneath it the foundation is cotton, strengthened by a small share of recycled synthetic yarn, and Halıcızade prints that fact instead of hiding it — what a foot touches is wool and nothing else.
Weavers in Pakistan and Afghanistan did the work, and the finishing wash came afterward, which is where both the luster and the slightly used look come from. Regular vacuuming keeps it; the rest is a specialist's job. Handwoven in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Wool across the entire surface; cotton foundation strengthened with recycled synthetic yarn. Classical Oushak medallions and vine, redrawn in contemporary blues. Washed and dyed after weaving, which is where the depth and the luster come from. The blues separate under low lamps and flatten under a ceiling light. Robust enough for an office or a busy living room. Regular vacuuming; specialist washing for anything more. Blue is the color rooms are most often afraid of, and a worn blue is the version that stops being a risk.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
