Pastel Green Vintage-Pattern Handwoven Wool Rug, Retro Series

Knotted in Pakistan and Afghanistan, this Retro Series piece takes the classical Oushak repertoire and redraws it in pastel green: a handwoven rug with a wool surface over a cotton foundation, the old motifs kept and the old colors thrown out. The design is centuries old; the palette is not.

01Color that shifts through the day

One piece. Pastel green is not a color the Oushak workshops ever used, and putting it under a traditional drawing is the whole idea of the Retro series. What survives from the original is the structure — field, medallion logic, banded border — and what changes is the temperature. Green at this softness sits quietly beside gray and pale wood, and it stops a classical rug from making a room look older than it is.

02How it feels underfoot

Against a dark floor the pattern reads more clearly than the color does. The surface you walk on is wool, all of it. In the foundation there is cotton and a trace of recycled synthetic yarn, put there for strength, and the house says so rather than describing the rug as all-natural.

03The geography of the weave

It was tied by weavers in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where wool work at this quality has held on longer than it has in Türkiye. Rugs off those looms are known for lasting; the trade-off is that they are firm underfoot rather than soft.
