The story of this rug

Wool on a cotton warp, and Halıcızade states plainly that a little recycled synthetic thread runs through the base to keep it firm. What your foot meets is wool and nothing else. Yellow Vintage Oushak Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Retro Series, 175 × 244 cm (5'9" × 8'0"), knotted by hand in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The pattern is Oushak and several centuries old.

01Which tone on the ground

Retro takes the classical western Anatolian drawing and runs it through a contemporary palette, and this piece lands on yellow — two yellows, in fact, one bright and one dark, used together, which is what gives the surface depth instead of a single flat tone.

02The Wool on the surface

The rugs are washed and the yarn dyed by particular methods before and after weaving, and that treatment is why the pile carries a shine and a muted, aged quality at the same time. A cotton warp under a wool pile makes a rug that is thin in the hand and hard to wear out, and those two things do not usually arrive together. It is also why the piece lies flat on a floor without an underlay.

03Knot by knot, by hand

The knotting was done by hand in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Yellow at this saturation is a decision rather than a background: it sets the color temperature of a room, and everything else in the room has to agree with it.

04From ground to pile

Professional washing, and give it a proper one rather than a surface clean. Hand-knotted in Pakistan and Afghanistan for Halıcızade's Retro Series. A wool pile knotted onto cotton warps, over a base stiffened with recycled synthetic thread. Nothing but wool between your foot and the knot. Classical Oushak motifs recolored to a contemporary palette. A bright yellow and a dark yellow used together for depth. Washed and yarn-dyed by particular methods, which is where the shine comes from. 175 × 244 cm (5'9" × 8'0") — a living room, a study or an office. Professional washing.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
