The story of this rug

01Knot by knot, by hand

Knotted entirely in silk, at eight to fourteen months of work per rug. One piece. Hereke is a town east of İstanbul that supplied the Ottoman court and gave its name to the densest Turkish weaving; the pattern is named for the place, and this rug carries the pattern rather than the provenance — it was knotted in China.

02The origin of the pattern

The scattered form, serpme, spreads small motifs evenly across the field instead of building toward a central medallion, which is why a red this dark never becomes heavy. The undertones do the rest.

03Color that shifts through the day

Blue and green cool the red where it would otherwise dominate, and gold marks the places the eye is meant to stop. Eight to fourteen months for one rug is a working figure rather than a boast, and silk at this fineness is the explanation.

04How it feels underfoot

Silk holds its brightness under wear better than any other rug fiber, and the pile is thin, so a rug like this shows its drawing rather than its depth. Practical matters, all stated by the house: keep it out of direct sunlight or the reds will lift, turn it end for end from time to time so it wears evenly, and keep it away from cats.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
