The story of this rug

Earth colors, worn the way plaster wears: cream over brown, with the abstract drawing dissolving wherever the two meet. This is a machine-woven rug with a wool ground and bamboo viscose figures, made in Türkiye in two sizes: 80 × 150 cm and 140 × 200 cm (4'7" × 6'7"). Brown and cream together are the least risky pair of colors on a floor and the hardest to make interesting, and what saves this one is the vintage cast of the drawing rather than any contrast between the two tones.

01What Wool does

Set against oak, unbleached linen and terracotta it disappears into the room in the good sense. Set against cold white and chrome it looks like a decision somebody made. Both sizes are small: the larger belongs in a bedroom or a study rather than in a sitting room. Wool builds the field and bamboo viscose draws the figures on top of it, both set down by a traditional loom working at a tight gauge. Matt against bright, and nothing else involved.

02Knot by knot, by hand

A loom repeats without variation, so the drawing is identical at both sizes, which matters under a bed where half of any rug is out of sight and the half you can see still has to hold together.

03Where it is laid

Professional cleaning only, and let it dry away from a radiator. Is machine-woven in Türkiye, its ground wool and its figures bamboo viscose. Works in earth tones — cream over brown — with a soft-edged abstract drawing. Comes in two small sizes: 80 × 150 cm and 140 × 200 cm. Suits a bedroom, a study or a hallway rather than a main sitting room. Repeats its pattern exactly, since the drawing is set on the loom. Should be cleaned by a professional. It lets a room be brown without announcing that it is brown, which is a harder thing to pull off than it reads.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
