The story of this rug

Wool, flat-woven, with no pile anywhere in it: Drop is a handwoven kilim designed by Studio Potato and made in Türkiye, its pattern abstract and multicolored, sized from 80 × 140 cm — 2'7" by 4'7" — through 120 × 170 cm to 160 × 210 cm (5'3" × 6'11"). Abstract on a kilim means something particular.

01A line from the archive

There is no cartoon of a medallion to follow and no border closing the field, so the composition has to hold together by color weight alone — a block of one shade set against a run of another until the two balance.

02Coming off the loom

Multicolor here is not the village multicolor of small repeating motifs; it is a small number of large areas, which is why the drawing carries across a room and why it gets more interesting the closer you stand. The studio designs, and women at looms in Türkiye do the weaving. Everything in it is wool, and because a flatweave is built rather than knotted, the edges come off the loom straight only if the tension holds even for the whole length — a slight wave along one side is the mark of hand work, not a fault to send back.

03What it sits well with

Both faces are usable, so turn it at the end of a season if one end has been sitting in the sun. Washing is specialist work. Wool kilim, handwoven flat in Türkiye to a Studio Potato design called Drop. Abstract and multicolored, built from large color areas rather than small repeats. Three sizes: 80 × 140, 120 × 170 and 160 × 210 cm. Pileless, so it slips under furniture and into doorways. A slight wave along a long edge is hand weaving, not damage. Reversible; turn it when one end has had the sun. Specialist washing. It will outlast the phase of taste that produced it and then come back round, the way plain color always does.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
