Lyocell weave

The lyocell fiber is straight and smooth and breaks light by direction, the way silk does. The same rug reads in two colors from two sides.

Classic, Authentic pattern; the motif edges sit on the order of the warp, so they come out sharp. The ground is red.

The story of this rug

The Pazyryk rug is the oldest knotted pile rug anyone has found — cut from the frozen ground of a Scythian burial mound in the Altai and now in the Hermitage — and this design takes its drawing from it.

01From ground to pile

Red, Tencel® and cotton, made on the Kütahya looms in four sizes: 130 × 190, 170 × 240, 200 × 290 and 200 × 300 cm, which is 4'3" × 6'3" up to 6'7" × 9'10". The center is a grid, the way the original is a grid, and the border is where the animals live: horses in one band, elephants in another, walking around the rug in procession.

02After the color

Red and beige carry almost all of it, in tones pitched to look already settled rather than new. Small trees of life are set into parts of the frame, which is Halıcızade's own addition and its mark on the piece.

03From the hand of the weaver

Someone was buried with the original because they could not bear to leave it behind, which is worth keeping in mind about an object people usually treat as furniture. Kütahya again, on traditional looms, with machine assistance for the body of the rug and hand work at the finish; afterward, women in the villages around the workshop tie the fringes one by one.

04The Wool on the surface

Tencel® and cotton in the pile, no wool, and a surface that moves between matt and bright as the light changes across it. The pile is low and sheds very little. It is made in sizes that suit apartments and hotel projects alike. Loom-woven in Kütahya, Türkiye; the fringes are tied by hand once the rug is off the loom. Tencel® and cotton, with no wool content. A gridded central field with horse and elephant figures walking the border. Drawn from the Pazyryk rug, the oldest surviving knotted pile rug, held in the Hermitage. Trees of life set into the frame — Halıcızade's own mark on the design. Four sizes, the largest 200 × 300 cm and the smallest 130 × 190 cm. Professional washing for anything a vacuum will not lift. Very few floors get to carry a pattern that has already survived two and a half thousand years.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
