Green Oushak-Pattern Loom-Woven Tencel® Rug, Zade Series

Olive is the difficult green, and it is the ground of this one: a Zade rug woven on the loom in Tencel® and cotton, carrying a classic Oushak field of curling leaves and opened buds, with a small tree of life set into the frame.

01A question of size

It is made at 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10") and as a 90 × 390 cm (2'11" × 12'10") runner. Halıcızade is straightforward about why it exists: green is hard to find, so the house wove one. Pastel reds and bluish details are scattered through the field, and because the green underneath them is desaturated they never take over.

02Color, by the light

The Oushak drawing itself is the old one — leaves that curl back on themselves, buds caught half open, everything held inside a frame — and putting it on green rather than on the customary madder red is the whole intervention. The rug changes character across a day: bright and open in the morning, deeper and quieter after the lamps go on.

03Knot by knot, by hand

That small tree in the frame is the house mark, and it is drawn to be missed on a first look. Machine and hand work together in the Oushak workshops, and the rug leaves the loom unfinished — women in the district knot the fringes afterward, loop by loop.

04From ground to pile

Cotton and Tencel® make the surface, which is why it has a natural low shine and no wool in it at all. Because the pile is low it sheds barely anything and passes under a door. At 200 × 300 cm it fills a sitting room; the 90 × 390 cm runner is for a corridor or a long hall. Woven at Oushak, Türkiye: a loom lays the body down and hands do the rest. Tencel® and cotton; wool-free. A classical Oushak field of curling leaves and opened buds on olive green. Pastel red and blue details spread through the field. The Halıcızade mark is a small tree of life set in the frame. Women in the district knot the fringes, loop by loop. Two sizes: 200 × 300 cm and a 90 × 390 cm runner. Professional washing. Green rugs are rare because green is difficult, and this one solves the difficulty by refusing to be a bright green at all.
