The story of this rug

The flowers come first on this one: terracotta and cream blossoms scattered over a blue that has been pulled back almost to pastel, framed by Oushak borders, on a handwoven wool runner measuring 80 × 300 cm, or 2'7" × 9'10".

01From the hand of the weaver

Wool pile, cotton foundation, knotted by hand in Pakistan. A pale blue floor is unusual in a Turkish rug and it changes the arithmetic of the whole piece. Because the ground is quiet, the terracotta does not have to fight for attention, and the two sit at roughly equal weight instead of one dominating.

02Where the Border comes from

The border repeats a classical Oushak figure at small scale, which is what stops the pastel from drifting into a nursery register. Hand-dyed yarn keeps the blue from ever going uniform — it lightens and gathers along the length, the way a wash of watercolor does. The weaving is done in Pakistan at a close knot count, entirely by hand.

03What the yarn is

The surface is wool through and through; below it, cotton warp and weft stiffened by a few synthetic threads. The rug is of middling thickness with a firm handle, which is the combination that keeps a three-meter runner from rucking up at the ends.

04Color that shifts through the day

Because every color was dyed in batches, no two lengths of this rug are tonally identical, and that is worth knowing before you order a second one to match. Hand-knotted in Pakistan at a close knot count. Wool pile above; cotton warp and weft with a trace of synthetic yarn below. Pale blue ground with terracotta and cream florals and a small-scale Oushak border. 80 × 300 cm (2'7" × 9'10") — corridor, entrance hall or the foot of a bed. Batch-dyed yarn, so the blue lifts and settles along the length. Medium thickness with a firm handle; it lies flat and stays flat. Have it washed by someone who washes rugs for a living. It is the rare traditional pattern that will not darken a narrow hallway, and in a north-facing one it does the opposite. This rug belongs to the Mahal Series.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
