Multicolor Abstract-Pattern Handwoven Wool Rug, Nazar Series

Six months at the loom, and often longer, is what one of these takes. It is a handwoven rug in all wool, 173 × 223 cm (5'8" × 7'4"), from the Nazar series — colored rings scattered across the field in an abstract arrangement, knotted in Türkiye to a drawing made for Halıcızade alone. The rings are the whole design: circles of different sizes and colors set down without a grid, so the field has movement but no center. Behind that modern surface is an older inheritance, because the Turkish weaving regions each contributed something to how a motif is set on a ground — Isparta its fineness, Hereke its precision, Sivas Zara its warmth, Bünyan its steadiness.

The Nazar drawing takes the placement instinct from all four and abandons the figures. What is left is color and interval. All wool, front to back, knotted by hand in Türkiye. More than six months of weaving goes into a single rug at this size, which is why no two of them come off the loom quite alike — the colors shift by a fraction where one dye lot ended and another began. That drift is not a flaw and should not be corrected out of the pictures.

02How it feels underfoot

Because it is wool throughout, it will shed for the first few months. Vacuum lightly at first and let a professional handle a full wash. Handwoven in Türkiye, entirely from wool yarn.
