The story of this rug

Two fibers, and the character of the whole rug comes out of the difference between them: wool, which scatters light, and viscose, which returns it along the filament. Cream Floral Oushak Handwoven Wool Rug, Emirgân Series, 176 × 249 cm (5'9" × 8'2"), from an Aegean workshop in western Türkiye.

01The origin of the pattern

One piece. Put the two into one pale rug and the floral Oushak figures stop needing a second color. They are the same cream as the ground and they read anyway, because they answer light on different terms — bright from one end of the room, gone from the other, shifting with your position rather than with the hour.

02The mark of slow weaving

A border frames the field on all four sides and keeps the drawing from running off the edge. Weavers in the Aegean have been knotting for generations, and it is their density the house buys against. The ends of this one were braided by hand after weaving instead of being machine-bound, which is slow work and the reason they still look intentional years later.

03Where it sits in the house

Four and a half square meters suits a sitting room, a study, or a bedside about equally. Viscose is regenerated cellulose and it will not tolerate water at home: vacuum it, and send it out when it needs more than that. From an Aegean workshop in western Türkiye. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
