Anthracite Plain Loom-Woven Tencel® Rug, Gessi Series

Tencel® is the fiber this rug is built on — a cellulose filament with a natural sheen and a silk-like hand — and the Gessi Series uses it plain, in anthracite, loom-woven in Türkiye.

01Choosing the size

Two sizes are made: 200 × 300 cm and 130 × 190 cm — in feet, 6'7" × 9'10" and 4'3" × 6'3". No pattern beyond a fine ruled line running through the weave. Anthracite is the gray that has gone almost to charcoal without arriving, and in a plain rug that depth is doing the work a pattern would otherwise do.

02Knot by knot, by hand

The fine lines set into the weave are what keep the surface from reading as a flat panel: they catch light along their length, so the floor has a grain to it, and the grain changes direction with your position in the room. It sits naturally with minimal and contemporary furniture, and it holds its own beside classical pieces by simply refusing to compete with them. Loom-woven means the frame of the rug goes down on a loom and the finishing is completed by hand: neither knotted throughout nor made entirely by machine.

03What the yarn is

Tencel® gives the pile a slippery, silky feel underfoot — pleasant to walk on and worth knowing about before it goes down on a polished floor. Halıcızade holds the Lenzing license for the fiber, so the mark on this rug is the real one. Wool does not appear anywhere in it. For anything beyond vacuuming, use a professional washer. Loom-woven in Türkiye in Tencel®, a cellulose fiber with a natural sheen. Plain anthracite, with a fine ruled line worked into the weave for texture. Two sizes only — the larger 200 × 300 cm, the smaller 130 × 190 cm. Silky and slippery underfoot — a different surface from wool. Wool-free, for rooms where wool is not wanted. The structure is loom-set; the finishing is done by hand. Professional washing. What is Tencel®? 04From ground to pile

In a rug it behaves closest to silk: it has a soft natural luster, it takes dye deeply, and it feels cool and smooth underfoot rather than warm and springy the way wool does. Dark plain rugs are chosen quickly and kept for a long time, which is the opposite of how most floors get bought.
