The story of this rug

Two things disqualify this rug and they are worth saying before anything else: crumbs work down between the loops, which rules out a kitchen in daily use, and the proportion of wool is high, so anyone with a respiratory sensitivity should weigh it carefully.

01How many centimeters, which room

Örge Series Anthracite Striped Handwoven Wool Rug, made in India in two sizes — the smaller 80 × 150 cm (2'7" × 4'11"), the larger 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10"). What is left after those two sentences is a rug with real physical presence.

02Knot by knot, by hand

Anthracite deepens as the stripes run, so the field is linear without being ruled, and the loops are worked at a scale closer to knitting than to knotting — thick, raised, and voluminous enough that walking on it registers as warmth. Beside Scandinavian furniture it is the weight that keeps a pale room from floating; among rustic pieces it looks as though it arrived first. Indian weavers make it by hand, loop after loop, in the way a sweater is made rather than the way a rug usually is.

03From ground to pile

The yarn is predominantly wool, supported with cotton and at times a little viscose. Households with animals have reported back well on it. It does hold lint and dust, which is a genuine trade: what settles into the loops leaves the house when you vacuum, and a head without a rotating brush is the one to use. Handwoven in India in thick loops, closer to knitting than to knotting. Mostly wool, supported by cotton and occasionally viscose. Anthracite, with the drawing carried in stripes rather than in motifs. Two sizes only — 80 × 150 cm (2'7" × 4'11"), then 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10"). Thick and soft to walk on; suits bedrooms, corridors and sitting rooms. Not for a working kitchen — crumbs settle between the loops. High wool content; consider it carefully if you are sensitive to dust. Vacuum with a brushless head; professional washing beyond that. The stripes are the only discipline in it.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
