02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Viscose yarn

Viscose fiber is soft and leaves a flowing feel under the hand. In rooms where people sit on the floor, this is the feel they are after.

02

India weave

This rug is woven in India. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.

03

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Blue Oushak-Pattern Handwoven Carved Round Rug, Safir Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

05

The story of this rug

A round handwoven rug in pastel blue, worked in Oushak motifs and finished by carving: once the pile is tied, the outline of every motif is cut back with shears so that the pattern stands above its ground in relief.

01From ground to pile

Wool and cotton carry the body of it, bamboo viscose carries the drawing. Woven in India for this house. One piece only. Oushak drawing is normally large and open. Here it has been reduced and softened until it sits inside a circle with no corner to anchor it.

02Reading the motif

The blues are pastel rather than saturated, so the outer band reads as a ring of pale flowers rather than as a border, and the relief does the work that color would otherwise have to do — under a ceiling light the cut edges throw a shadow a millimeter or two deep and the motifs lift away from the field.

03What Wool does

Seen from directly above, which is how a round rug in an entrance is actually seen, that shadow is the pattern. Cotton runs through the foundation, wool makes the surface, and the motifs alone are picked out in bamboo viscose, a cellulose yarn spun to take light the way silk does; it is why the drawing looks wet against a matt ground.

04At the loom in in India

Knot density is high enough that the carver can follow a curve without stepping it. Carving is a second pass and a slow one, carried out by hand with shears once the rug is off the loom. Being round, it has no straight edge to set against a wall, so it needs floor it can sit in the middle of. Cleaning belongs to a rug workshop. Handwoven in India, in a workshop that supplies this house. Wool surface on a cotton foundation, with bamboo viscose in the motifs. Oushak motifs redrawn at pastel scale, in blues. Every motif is cut back by hand with shears after weaving. Dense knotting holds the curves of the drawing without stepping them. Round format — an entrance hall, a bedroom, or beneath a round table. Professional washing. One piece; carving is never repeated in exactly the same way. What does it mean that the rug is carved? Carving is a hand operation performed after weaving.

05The origin of the pattern

A worker follows the outline of each motif with shears and cuts the surrounding pile shorter, so the pattern sits in relief above the field and throws a small shadow across the pile beside it. Why does a carved rug need a dense weave? Shears open a loose pile.

06The mark of slow weaving

The knot count has to be high enough that the cut edge stays sharp and does not fray, which is why carving is only done on rugs tied densely enough to hold the line. In a hallway it will be the first thing anyone stands on and the last thing they look at, which is the correct order for a rug.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?
