Multicolor Authentic-Pattern Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Tempus Series

Someone on the team said, the first time this one came in, that looking at it makes her happy — which is not a specification, but it is the most accurate thing anyone has said about it. A loom-woven wool rug in orange, red, yellow, green and gray, authentic-patterned, woven in the Aegean region of Türkiye, at sizes running to 250 × 350 cm (8'2" × 11'6") and starting at 80 × 150 cm (2'7" × 4'11"). Orange is the color that sets the temperature; the reds and yellows push it warmer and the greens and grays hold it back from tipping over.

01The origin of the pattern

The drawing is authentic Anatolian rather than classical — geometric, repeating, closer to a village rug than to a court one — and the modern part of it is the palette, not the pattern. Because it is bright without being sweet it works in a room children use as well as a room adults sit in, and the Turkish description is blunt about the first of those: it is made for a child's room. The surface is wool from edge to edge, of middling depth and tightly set, so it does not fluff and dust finds little to hold onto.

A loom lays the structure down; the ends and the edges are a weaver’s work.
