Multicolor Authentic-Pattern Round Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Tempus Series

Round and loud on purpose: this Tempus rug puts orange, red, yellow, green and gray into a circle of 160 cm or 200 cm (5'3" or 6'7"), with authentic Anatolian motifs and squared panels worked across it, on a wool surface over a cotton warp, off the looms of the Turkish Aegean. Orange sets the temperature of the thing and the rest of the palette keeps it from tipping over — red pushing warm, green and gray pulling back.

01The origin of the pattern

The motifs are village drawing rather than court drawing, geometric and repeating, and the modern part of the rug is the color rather than the figure. Because the format is circular, the pattern runs around rather than across, and the piece works as an object dropped into a room rather than as a floor covering laid to fit it.

02What the yarn is

It goes in a hallway, at the foot of a bed, in the middle of a kitchen floor, or in front of a plain sofa where it will do all the talking. Tempus is woven from wool, or from wool with bamboo viscose blended in, over a cotton warp, depending on the piece; the surface here is wool.

03The mark of slow weaving

Medium in depth and set close on the loom, it does not fluff and it takes a vacuum easily. That coast has been weaving for centuries; the looms are modern and the finish is not. Each rug in the series is marked with the house tree of life.

04After the color

The same pattern is also made rectangular. From Aegean looms in Türkiye; wool surface on a cotton warp. Orange first, then red, yellow, green and gray through the drawing. Authentic Anatolian motifs with squared panels, drawn around a circle. Round: 160 and 200 cm across. Medium depth, densely set, comfortable in a hallway or a kitchen.
