The story of this rug

Two sizes of this were made and the small one has gone; what is left is the large. A black and gray machine-woven rug from the Fresco series, 240 × 340 cm (7'10" × 11'2"), worked in viscose with synthetic yarn at a hundred-reed density in Türkiye, with an abstract field across the whole of it. Viscose is what the pile is for.

01Knot by knot, by hand

It is spun from cellulose, it lies dense and soft, and it takes light the way a satin weave does, so a black-and-gray field that would be inert in wool instead moves as you walk past it. The abstract drawing is bold enough to hold a room of that size: in a pale, modern, half-classical or worn-in interior it becomes the thing everything else is arranged around, and in a dark room it stops competing and closes the floor instead. Machine-woven in Türkiye at a hundred reeds, which is what gives the surface its density rather than any hand work — this is a machine rug and the house does not dress it up as anything else.

02From ground to pile

A real clean is a professional's job, because viscose does not take domestic scrubbing well. Over eight square meters is a great deal of rug: at 240 × 340 cm it will take a sofa, two chairs and a table with room around them, and it needs measuring against the floor before it is ordered rather than after. The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
