The story of this rug

Look at it twice and you find something you missed: an evil-eye figure in one panel, a whole small story folded inside a flower in another. Patchwork Anatolian Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Anadolu Şal Series — 205 × 302 cm (6'9" × 9'11"), knotted in wool in Anatolia, in orange, yellow, navy and burgundy. The panels are drawn from towns that each weave differently — Hereke, Bünyan, Ladik, Isparta — so the rug is a survey rather than a repeat.

01Color that shifts through the day

Vivid oranges and warm yellows push against deep navy and burgundy without any of them winning, and because the colors were mixed for different traditions, no two of the reds are quite the same red. That mismatch is the thing to look for.

02Coming off the loom

Laid in front of a plain gray sofa the rug does all the talking and the room does none, and that is the setting it was drawn for. It is knotted over months, row by row, by Anatolian women for whom weaving is still a trade.

03What Wool does

The wool is first-grade, which is why the surface has a natural luster to it and why it will improve rather than degrade with walking — wool with lanolin left in it responds to use. This is one of the last generations of a weaving tradition several hundred years old, and it is worth saying plainly that pieces like this get harder to find each year.

04Color, by the light

Professional washing. Knotted in wool by Anatolian women weavers. Panels drawn from the Hereke, Bünyan, Ladik and Isparta traditions. Orange, yellow, navy and burgundy, with color that varies panel to panel. First-grade wool with a natural luster that deepens with use. 205 × 302 cm (6'9" × 9'11") — a large sitting-room size. Months of weaving per piece. Professional washing. Put it under modern furniture and it will make the furniture look deliberate, which is not what most people expect a patchwork rug to do.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
