The story of this rug

150 × 224 cm (4'11" × 7'4") is a compact rug, and this one has been drawn to fill it: an Oushak knotted by hand in wool and silk for the Harem series, flowers set into the beige center and a dark border of red and earth-toned florals around them. One piece. Most Oushak rugs put their weight in the border and leave the middle open. The flowers sit in the field, picking up shadows out of the beige, and the dark border then arrives as contrast rather than as a frame around emptiness.

01What the yarn is

Red and earth against pale beige is a hard balance to hold at a small size, and it holds because the center drawing is spaced rather than crowded. The fiber is Erzurum wool, oiled and unwashed at the spindle.

02The mark of slow weaving

Anatolia's double knot is used here, and at a small size it is what allows the drawing to stay this fine. Bursa silk, still woven and now rarely, is tied in with the wool; the flowers are where you see it.

03After the color

A silk-blend pile at this scale suits a hall or a bedside, but it should not be the rug at the front door, and only a specialist should wash it. Made by hand at Çınar Halı, Türkiye, for the Harem series. Erzurum wool, oiled and unwashed at the spindle, with Bursa silk tied in. Anatolia's double knot, which is what allows drawing this fine at this scale. Flowers in the beige field, with a dark border of red and earth-toned florals. 150 × 224 cm (4'11" × 7'4") — a hall, a bedside, or a small seating area. Not a rug for an entrance; the pale ground and the silk both object. Cleaned only by a specialist. There is one, and no more coming. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
