Natural surface

Classic pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a brown ground.

This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.

The story of this rug

Uşak, in western Türkiye, has been drawing the same family of patterns since the fifteenth century; this is a present-day reading of them: Brown Oushak Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Harem Series — 130 × 165 cm (4'3" × 5'5"), knotted in Türkiye from Erzurum wool, in browns and natural tones. Brown is the color the Oushak drawing was probably always closest to, and on this ground the motifs read as structure rather than as decoration — you notice the geometry of the branches before you notice the flowers on them.

01When you walk in

The palette stays inside the natural range, which means the rug does not compete with wood and does not fight leather. In a study or a small hall it does the thing a brown rug is bought to do: it makes the floor feel finished and then stops asking for attention. Çınhar Halı wove it for Halıcızade — a house with international awards in rug design — and the series is theirs to make and ours to draw.

02The air of the room

Erzurum wool gives the pile its softness and its shine. The knot is the Anatolian double knot, two warps at a time, which is the slower method and the one that keeps a pattern edge from blurring.

03What Wool does

Genuine Bursa silk turns up in some pieces from the Harem series. Erzurum wool is what is named for this one. Professional washing. Hand-knotted in Türkiye by Çınhar Halı for Halıcızade. Erzurum wool in the pile; Bursa silk appears in some Harem pieces but is not named for this one. Oushak drawing in browns and natural tones, read as structure. The Anatolian double knot, tied around two warps at a time. 130 × 165 cm, a near-square size for a study or a small hall. Sits with wood and leather without competing with either. Professional washing. Buy it when the floor is the thing that keeps looking unfinished, and it will go on solving that for twenty years.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
