01Color that shifts through the day

Four colors in a single field, every one of them arrived at by gradation rather than by drawing. The honey tone through the middle is the warmest part of the piece and the coal at the end is the ballast that stops the rest turning sweet. Copper passages in between look like orange preserve held up to a window.

02Coming off the loom

This is a floor for someone who did not want one color and did not want a pattern either, and there are not many ways to have both. The loom is in India and the labor is split between hand and machine.

03How many centimeters, which room

Three thousand three hundred grams per square meter is a real weight to move, though not an unmanageable one, and the pile lands where most rug piles land: neither thin nor deep. The larger the piece, the more of the gradation is visible at once, so bigger dimensions do this design more justice.
