The story of this rug

Two colors and a boundary you cannot quite locate: a calm green across the body of the rug, red where the head goes, and a blurred meeting between them. This is a Tencel® and cotton prayer rug from the Baş Başa series, loom-woven in Anatolia to the standard 80 × 130 cm (2'7" × 4'3") format. Red at the head end is the older idea in this design. It marks the direction without an arch, and it does the work that a printed mihrab used to do on a mass-market prayer rug, with none of the drawn line.

01Color, by the light

The green underneath it is unbroken. Set the rug down and there is only one place for the eye to go, which is what the small mark at the prostration point is for. The fiber is Tencel® over cotton, so the hand is closer to a fine cloth than to a rug, and it stays cool in a warm room.

02Knot by knot, by hand

Anatolian looms, with the ends knotted by hand afterward. Choosing this over the brown wool version of the same rug is a choice about feel rather than about quality — wool is warm and dense; this is smooth and light; neither is the better prayer rug. Loom-woven in Anatolia, ends knotted by hand. Tencel® over cotton — light, smooth and cool in a warm room. Green body with a red panel at the head end and no drawn arch. One mark at the point of prostration. 80 × 130 cm. Wool-free; a different feel from the wool version, not a lesser one. Have it cleaned professionally rather than washing it at home. Prayer rugs pick up the marks of a routine faster than any other rug in a house, and this one shows them at the head and the knees before anywhere else.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
