Beige Plain Loom-Woven Wool and Viscose Rug

Sixty-five percent viscose and thirty-five percent wool, 3,900 grams to the square meter, 10 mm of pile: a plain beige rug loom-woven in India. Ten sizes are made, the smallest 90 × 150 cm (2'11" × 4'11") and the largest four meters long, with a 90 × 400 cm runner for a corridor. The beige is neither matt nor glossy.

01From ground to pile

Linear passes of weaving run across the surface, and where the viscose sits proudest it takes the light and where the wool does the ground stays dry and quiet — so from across a room you get an even, slightly liquid beige, and from a meter away you can see the weave that produced it.

02Where it sits in the house

This is one of the rugs we lay down most often and keep coming back to, because it is the one that stops an argument about the floor and lets the furniture be the subject. Beside metal chair legs, dark textiles, or the mink and gray palettes people are buying now, it softens a scheme rather than adding to it. Made in India, on looms where traditional hand skill and mechanical weaving are used on the same piece.

03What Wool does

The viscose does the surface and most of the sheen; the wool underneath is what stops a viscose face going lifeless after a few years of feet. At 10 mm the pile is ordinary rug thickness, which is deliberate — thick enough to feel like something, thin enough to go under a door and a dining chair. It sheds little in daily use.

Loom-woven in India, hand skill and machine weaving on the same rug. 65% viscose, 35% wool. 3,900 g/m² — a dense, firm surface with real weight to it. 10 mm pile: ordinary rug thickness, clears a door. Plain beige that shifts between matt and sheen depending on the angle. Ten sizes, 90 × 150 cm to 300 × 400 cm, with 90 cm runners at 180, 300 and 400 cm. Custom dimensions can be woven for a project.
