Gray Geometric Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Zima Series

A sand-colored circle set inside a gray rectangle, the rectangle set inside a cream border, on a surface brushed to look worn: a gray geometric rug in the Zima series, loom-woven, its pile Tencel® and its foundation cotton, 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"), off the looms at Kütahya and Uşak. The nesting is the entire composition, and it reads as a window seen head-on, or as a door standing open, which is what Zima is about. Orange enters at the corners in small amounts and nowhere else.

01To make it last

Everything except the circle has been given a scrubbed, abraded texture, while the circle is left clean and true, so the eye keeps returning to it. Under Scandinavian furniture and pale wood it will be the only element in the room with a hard edge in it. Nothing but Tencel® goes into the pile — no wool, no blend — and cotton carries it underneath.

02The Lyocell on the surface

Lyocell is made from wood pulp and its shine is mild rather than glassy, which is why the abraded passages read as texture and not as damage. The rug is made in western Türkiye by women working looms that combine machine knotting with hand finishing; the house is straightforward that this is not hand-knotting, whatever the surface suggests.

03The tone of the ground

A weave number and the tree-of-life mark go on every piece. Tencel® pile only, on a cotton foundation. A sand circle inside a gray rectangle inside a cream border. Orange touches confined to the corners. Brushed, abraded ground with one clean geometric form left sharp. Loom-woven in Kütahya and Uşak by women weavers. The dimensions are 200 × 300 cm, for a broad room or a hallway run. Numbered as it leaves the loom, and carrying the house tree of life. Professional washing when it needs it; a vacuum the rest of the time. The circle is the part you will keep looking at, and the reason the rest of it was deliberately roughed up.
