01Knot by knot, by hand

In one corner a patch of brick orange comes up, with yellowish brush marks scattered between the lines, and that is the whole of the warmth on an otherwise cool surface — enough to read as a desert sky at dusk rather than as a floor. Nothing in the composition is centered. The lines run off the edge of the circle on all sides, which is exactly why the round format suits it: there is no corner for the eye to settle into and no top or bottom to the picture.

02From ground to pile
