01The origin of the pattern

This length is a single piece. The border is doing more here than edging the rug. It is a wide band of warm brown, and against it the cream field looks lighter than it is, which is the trick that makes a narrow runner feel like an opening rather than a strip. Inside, the Oushak motifs curl rather than repeat mechanically — the eye is led along the length by the drawing itself, which is what these patterns were designed to do.

02The mark of slow weaving

Green, gold and terracotta sit in the motifs; brown holds the outside; nothing is at full saturation. Weavers in Pakistan knotted it, working the Anatolian double knot, which ties around two warps and produces a pile that keeps a runner's shape in a corridor where the traffic always goes the same way.

03How it feels underfoot

Under it sits cotton, with a small synthetic thread run through for strength — stated here rather than glossed over. The yarns were dyed by hand, so the browns run from chestnut through to gold along the length and the cream is not one cream.

04Which tone on the ground

That variation is the difference between this and an industrially colored rug. Made in Pakistan, knot by knot, on the Anatolian double knot.
