02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

On the surface: Wool. The kind of yarn sets the hand of the rug, its shine and what its care asks, all together.

02

Classic pattern

Classic pattern; the motif edges sit on the order of the warp, so they come out sharp. The ground is brown.

03

Pakistan workshop

This rug is woven in Pakistan. Knowing where a rug comes from is not only a matter of curiosity: yarn, dye and weaving habits change from region to region.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. In a rug in direct sun the color opens unevenly over the years; drawing the curtain halfway or turning the rug now and then prevents that.

Cream and Brown Oushak Hand-Knotted Wool Runner, Mahal Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

05

The story of this rug

The broad brown border is the first thing you see, and it is what holds the rug together: a hand-knotted Mahal runner in wool, 78 × 216 cm (2'7" × 7'1"), with gold, earth and soft green motifs on a light ground.

01The Wool on the surface

Knotted in Pakistan; the face is wool and the structure below it is cotton. The shortest runner in this group, and there is one of it. At just over two meters it is a passage rug rather than a corridor rug — the length of a doorway approach, a galley kitchen, the space between a bed and a wall.

02The origin of the pattern

The border takes a disproportionate share of that length, which is why it reads as a frame around a picture rather than a trim around a floor. Inside the frame the Oushak motifs are pale and open: gold and soft green on light cream, with earth tones filling between them.

03The mark of slow weaving

The contrast is low enough that the rug will not shorten a small room the way a dark patterned runner does. It comes from workshops in Pakistan, where the Anatolian double-knot technique has been kept in daily use.

04How it feels underfoot

Beneath it, cotton warps and wefts do the structural work, and a thread of synthetic yarn is added so a narrow rug holds its line over years of being walked down the middle. Hand-dyed yarn is what produces the chestnut-to-gold movement across the border; two runs of the same color never come out identical, and neither do two rugs. Have it washed professionally. Hand-knotted in Pakistan on the double knot. Wool pile; cotton structure with a thread of synthetic yarn in it. Wide brown border enclosing gold, earth and soft green Oushak motifs. 78 × 216 cm (2'7" × 7'1") — short passages, galley kitchens, bedsides. Low contrast, so it does not visually shorten a small space. Hand-dyed yarns give the border its chestnut-to-gold movement. Dense enough for a route that gets walked several times a day. Professional washing.

05Up close to the pattern

A single piece. Short runners are the hardest size to buy well, because there is nowhere for a weak pattern to hide.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
